Be your own fashion photographer

In your photo shoot goal is to send around five images to modelling agency or new face booker that best shows your potential as a model, in a variety of appearance. Nowadays it is easier than ever to do this successfully. Your need is a friend, some planning, and an inexpensive digital camera. Many people will be able to get all the pictures they need from a photo shoot. Others may need more at times. Basics of photo shoot are to plan at least 3 to 5 changes of makeup, wardrobe, hair, and location. Shoot in "web" or low resolution, approximately 72 dpi. Have different moods/attitudes/facial expressions during each of the segments. At least take 30 pictures during each change sequence. The focus here is taking a lot of pictures per look.

Your pictures should reflect who you are. However here are some things you should always avoid doing. Wearing too much makeup is a killer deal for a model. In case you are wondering if you are wearing too much makeup chances are you are. Very few occasions call for heavy makeup like being on a runway during a fashion show for male model as well as female model. Almost all other times makeup should be at a minimum for the look you are trying to achieve. Obviously evening makeup is going to be more intense than what is worn during the day. Although these clothes have their place, most of the time they will detract from you. Modelling agencies want to work with as normal of people as possible. If you are wearing some totally inappropriate clothing they will simply think you have bad judgment.

Hair problems can range from inappropriate length and color, to damaged and/or oddly cut or colored hair. As a person ages their hair naturally becomes lighter, (some people call it gray), and generally shorter for model. Keep this in mind when planning your hairstyle changes. In addition, if your hair looks damaged or odd looking (green for instance), plan on cutting and/or coloring it back to normal before your shoot. If it is long enough to put back into a ponytail think about how exactly you will be holding it in place.

When it comes to skin problems, if you are "broken out" when your pictures are taken you can basically forget the entire shoot. Models must have clear skin. If a model have skin problems that don't go away it's time to rethink a goal to be a professional model.

Analyzing the looks you will be striving for during your shoot. It does not matter who you are there are going to be certain looks you will best fit into for a model. This will generally be determined by your age. Remember your pictures should make you money, not be a creative art project. Here are some basic guidelines to go by body shots, if you have a fabulous body then go ahead and change into a couple of nice fitting swimsuits for this section which is essential for a model.
