What’s a winner’s recipe?

As you probably know, Stand Out modelling agency attended Mr International pre-selection for Britain last Sunday at the Pinapple Studios. We asked the jury to put in a nutshell what they were looking for and what models should be attentive to.

The first important feature of a model is their confidence. According to both Sonia Mohlich and Deric Hartigan, it is very important that the model shows self-esteem in his posture as well as in his speech. They have to convey a strong image, and one must feel their charisma.

One point that is to be stressed as well is that you should try to convey your personality. This can only be achieved by good communication skills. It might seem stupid, but looks are not enough, you will become more appealing if you project a good image. A very simple tip from Deric was to always smile. Eye contact is also important as by doing so you acknowledge the judges.

Whatever competition you are entering, make sure you know what the jury is looking for and show your best asset regarding their standards. Indeed, in this Mr International contest, the jury was looking for the models’ Englishness.

Always follow the main guidelines. You should not be too sheepish, but if the guidelines are “be smart and wear a suit”, do it. If you don’t, you will simply come up as disrespectful and careless. You should always play by the rules and make the effort.

In the end, showing some arrogance and guts can never harm, but don’t take it too seriously either. You don’t want to come up as desperate to win. Remember this is a competition, there will only be one winner and the most important part of it all is the journey, not the result. Make sure you enjoy the experience.
